The pipers badges were somewhat crude cast badges made from the PPCLI marguerite pattern badge with the added wreath. As such, it is very diffiucult to determine the authenticity, as it is relatively easy to copy. There were only a few, some sources suggest no more than 24 badges made for the pipe band. (That begs some thought. Even if the pipe band was 24 members, there would have been some turn over, and more than 24 badges would have been needed IF each member of the band wore the badge. There is also a strong possibility that only one order was made and once the badges were issued, no more were acquired.) Another example of the badge that has been seen is voided around the flower petals. At the price, one would want iron clad provinance. Unfortunately, this collection that is being sold off was put together in the last few years, and there are several klunkers that have come out of it, including a 1 CACR phoney, and an LRDG badge.
