Both brass and cloth braid were used for wound stripes. They were worn on the lower sleeve, 4 inches above the cuff. They had a bit of a convoluted history. Initially approved in the First World War, they were allowed for wear by members of the Veterans' Guard, then that permission was withdrawn. In 1944, the wound stripe was again authorized.
