Unknown Sherbrooke Hussars Flash Empty Unknown Sherbrooke Hussars Flash

    Post by lorne19 Tue Aug 21, 2012 7:58 pm

I recently picked this Sher H flash up and am curious if any one has any info on it. I've never seen one like this before. Looks like a inverted version of the stand CF version from the 70s-80s.

Here's an example of the typical one i usually see.

The "upside down" flash was made in error and not accepted by the unit. (For obvious reasons.) But, it has worked its way into the collectables field.
Just as an aside, this brings up the question of what insignia collecting is all about? Do insignia collectors follow numismatics and get into odd errors, or do we collect the insignia as worn?
There are two terms that may describe our hobby, faleristics, and scutelliphily.

Unknown Sherbrooke Hussars Flash Empty Errors

It is when the errors become 'rare varients' that the hobby starts to suffer. Knowledge is the key.

Interesting, so this was a miss print that wasn't excepted into service. I can see where this could lead to trouble for would be collecters that lack knowledge. Thank god for the internet.

These arrived at the Armoury in the late 70s or early 80s when DND found money for insignia for the green DEU tunics. For whatever reason (I suspect anti-Anglo cussedness), the inverted curve flashes got all the way through the procurement system and were delivered to the unit. The QM Sgt came up stairs with a string-tied bundle cracking jokes about where do you wear these, and oh yeah, they go in the underarm. They made a crappy photocopy of one for the bulletin board, and sent the bundle back. I'm not surprised these finally hit the collector's market.
