Can someone help me date a photo?

I found this in a box my aunt had. I believe it is my great-grandfather but I'm not sure.

Can someone help me date this photo?



And a very blurry closeup of an arm patch.



Any help would be appreciated.

I would say WWII Navy, the trade badge is for a stoker if my memory serves me.

Looks like he has a late 40-50's era camera slung over his shoulder. IIRC his style of portable camera came out post WWII, and were very desirable in their day.

Does that not look like the old barracks at H.M.C.S. Stadacona and the cement lamp post??????

Thank you for the replies so far. I thought it might be an earlier photo so I'm sorry I posted it in the wrong forum. Oops.

My aunt had a lot of old photos that have no dates or names with them and this one just really peaked my interest.

I wonder if that is Toronto, down near the old Tip-top tailor factory, there is a Naval place there, those windows remind me of the factory(now condo) building
