The buckles should be on the inside. You have them on the outside.

Nice one, you don't see much rifles with this date, they stopped making them in '43 (in the UK that is).
Do you know where this one was made (factory).
These rifles were made very crude, you should compare it to a ww1 or interbellum made rifle and see diffences in finishing.

Hello, it was sold to me by Adrew Morss of Halifax.
The history is that this 303 belonged has a soldier of the used Royal Canadian Régiment hang the second war.
The soldier kept the weapon, after its death the family sold it has Andrew who me given up it was always functional.
I made deactivate so that it be legal.

I doubt it belonged to a soldier of the RCR as Canadians were issued the improved No4 rifle early in the war... although I don't know all of the details so I can't say for certain but it would be highly unusual.

The maker mark should be located above the year but it appears that it wasn't stamped very well. The first letter looks like it might possibly be a B. so it could be B.S.A. (Birmingham Small Arms). Look at the barrel just forward of the receiver and you may see some more maker marks. If you see a symbol that looks like three stacked rifles that is for B.S.A..

Why did you have to deactivate the rifle to make it legal? You don't have a firearms license?

I also think it is a B, (B stands for BSA),this is a dispersal rifle (google for the explanation).
Could it be that the rifle had seen service in India?
Why? you ask. Because of the screw in the forestock that doesn't belong there (again google for Ishapore screw).
There is lots of info on Enfiels rifles out there on the net.

Good point on the Ishapore screw... I missed that. For me that just confirms that this rifle was not brought home by a Canadian soldier.

I wasn't familiar with these "dispersal" rifles but after doing a bit of research I believe that is exactly what this is. Good call LSR  not worthy
