Reclassification of firearms Empty Reclassification of firearms

Post by Infanteer Sat Mar 01, 2014 3:31 am

The RCMP has arbitrarily decided that a number of previously legal firearms are now prohibited and that owners must turn in those firearms for destruction without compensation. All firearms owners and Canadian citizens who are against unelected public servants having the power to decide what we can or can not possess should be outraged that this is happening. This is not a police state and therefore the RCMP should not have the power to make arbitrary decisions that affect law abiding citizens and their lawful possessions. If you believe that we live in a democracy and that this is a free country I hope that you will feel compelled to share your feelings with the Prime Minister, your MP or the minister of public safety.

Well said! I'm surprised no one else has commented on this thread so far. I've writen my MP, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Safety. It time for some one in Ottawa to wake up and rein the RCMP in.

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised too. I know there are other gun owners who frequent this site. Hopefully, even if they don't comment on this thread they at least are made aware of the situation if they didn't already know. Perhaps we will finally see a significant change to the firearms regulations in Canada.

If nothing else, I urge all gun owners regardless of the type of shooting they do or how often they shoot to join the National Firearms Association. This is the only registered gun lobby group in Canada and we all know that numbers speak volume so the more members there are the greater the influence we will have.

Well said once again, I'm afraid that to many gun owners in this country are too willing to let it go or throw the other guy under the bus. Anyone who is a firearms owner should be a member of NFA or CSSA or better yet both. Strength in numbers is the only way we can defend our rights.

Is there a link to exactly what they classify now as an illegal firearm to fall under this new program? It's getting nuts where there is never any discussion and they just do what they want to do.

Well this is part of the problem.... nothing has changed as far as what is considered prohibited, restricted or non restricted. The firearms that were recently reclassified as prohibited were originally declared to be non restricted by the RCMP and in the case of the Swiss Arms classic green they have been non restricted for over a decade. Not only was there no discussion but the RCMP deliberately misled the Public Safety Minister in order to pass the first reclassification and then after they were directed to not do any more reclassifications they proceeded to do exactly that the next day. So apparently they feel they are running the country and not our elected officials. It would seem that the RCMP feel that they know best and would prefer to consider Canada a police state rather than a democracy.

I thought we were in a democratic country, this sounds like third world policing to me. I went through this when I was going to buy a Styer AUG back before they made them prohib, luckily I had only a deposit on one and didnt loose any money.
