Fold the groundsheet Empty Fold the groundsheet

Post by Tiflo 62 Mon Mar 31, 2014 9:28 am

    Hi,

I would like to know how "fold" the groundsheet (rain cape) for wearing it with haversack or waist belt ?
Pics are prefered, it's easier for me to understand!  Wink

    Cheers!

    Fold the groundsheet Empty Groundsheet/Cape

This is one of those requests where you really need to do a bit of a time appreciation before asking the question. My estimate is an hour to spend digging out a cape, photographing the steps, and then downloading them. I still have a foot of wet snow in the yard and photographing the cape in the front room is not an option. To be honest, more time then I have to invest.

JUst for everyones information,Tiflo62 is a young lad who lives in France and will be reenacting at the tributes/ceremoniesI have planned for Return to Normandy 2014. He wants to ensure he gets the impression exact. His town was liberated by the NNSH's and he is very appreciative of our Canadian Veterans for it.
Cheers, please help him if you can.

Normally, the rolled item seen attached to the belt of soldiers in Europe is the gas cape and not the ground sheet. That method of carriage was not official as far as I'm aware so there is no right or wrong way to do it.

Thanks for your help but I just want to fold the groundsheet.

Oh... you mentioned the waist belt so that's what I thought you meant. But again, I'm not sure that there is an "official" method. In the past I have folded the ground sheet to the width of the small pack and about twice the height of the small pack. If there is an official method then it should be shown in a pamphlet or manual somewhere but I haven't seen it.

That is exactly how i do it, i have also seen it the same way, folded to the width of the small pack, twice the length and half in the small pack and half rolled outside of the small pack. it looks neat and fills some of your small pack.
