Silver Cross presentation to family Empty Silver Cross presentation to family

Post by Cameraguy Tue Apr 22, 2014 2:51 pm

Hey guys. I recently decided to pass on a Silver Cross to the family of the man killed,NNSH Albert F. Bedwin. With some help from the internet,I tracked down his daughter who lives near Grimshaw,AB. I will pass it onto her with the understanding it will not be sold or put away in a drawer not to be seen.

I will also try to get a sponsor to shadow box it as well before the presentation. But,one problem...it does not have the ribbon.Would any of you here happen to have original or good facsimile you would be willing to donate to the cause?

    Cheers and thanks!

I applaud your decision - but it isn't something that I would do. Unless the Memorial Cross was stolen or lost we must keep in mind that it was the family that disposed of it in the first place and whatever the reason for the original sale you are now going to give them back something for which they have received an agreed-upon payment.

    Clive,believe me...I've thought of that.

This part of the family was not the part who gave/sold it away apparently.I need to have a bit of faith here and can only hope they are telling the truth. It seems she is. I know there were several brothers, but this is going to the daughter. Plus,I'll ask two things of the family at the presentation;Don't sell it and please ensure it is seen by many.Either way,I'm going to do what I feel is right. If it were my family,I'd hope the same would happen for me.

That said,I could use some help with ribbon if any of you can or would like to help. I'm a collector too,so I understand where you guys are coming from.

Good luck in finding original ribbon. I have never found any. What you can do though is visit a sewing shop, or fabric shop. Check out their double satin ribbon. You will likely find a purple ribbon very close to the original. The original ribbon is 11 mm wide but as long as you find something close, it will be the best I think you will find.
