Eight pointed star with the George V era cypher - Royal Canadian Regiment? But it is unlike any I have seen?

Not RCR
Can't see any "V" for George V on it, so I don't think that it's anything my regiment ever has worn. Shape of the star is not the same. This is just a guess, but I'd wager it's early-mid 1800's....maybe War of 1812...maybe even earlier. Of course, not my area of expertise, so don't quote me, OK?
