Leather Jerkins

There was some discussion about Leather Jerkins in another post on 1937 Pattern Web, so I thought I would start a new thread.   These are images of some of the Leather Jerkins that I hold in my collection.

This first example is British manufactured and 1939 dated.



This camouflaged example is 1944 dated.



This modified Leather Jerkin (by an RCDC Sgt who was attached to No. 6 Group in the UK) is 1942 dated.



Finally this is a 1943 dated Canadian manufactured Leather Jerkin.

It seems that 1943 was the year for Canadian manufactured Leather Jerkins. Who produced your jerkin?

Is it the same manufacturer as yours?

The one I have handy is D.A. Miller from Montreal - 1943. Not sure about the other Canadian examples.

That is the only one I own, and I'm not sure of any other maker either.

The Canadian ones are black?

Dark Brown exterior and black or dark blue lining.

Have seen a 1940 dated Canadian Jerkin, dark leather and blue lining.

Rare example of modified Canadian jerkin from my collection.




I have found images of Canadian Grenadier Guards and Film & Photo Unit who worn these modified jerkins.
