1901 6in Shell

Hey!

First time here, wondering if you fine folks could shed some light on what I found....

Made an interesting barn find here in Fraser Valley, BC, appears to be a 6in A.P shell. Yes, I made sure it was deactivated    It's dated 14/6/1901 and has the markings "6in II A.P."

So far as I can tell it's an early armour piercing shell from pre-ww1, but that's about all I can glean off Google so far. Does anyone here have any more info about it or where I could find out more?

Oh...and is it worth anything besides a cool conversation piece in my office?

You can try the British site British Ordnance Collectors Network. Check the forum "Projectiles" and do a search, in addition they have a lot of very knowledgable collectors and a post there should get some responses.
Be aware that they will probably want a picture of the entire base and any other marks on the sides.

What type of armor would they need to penetrate in 1901? Is this a naval projectile?

Infanteer, yes, Naval is my understanding. I'm thinking the BL 6-inch Mk VII naval gun, but I'm hoping to have it confirmed.
