This just arrived in the post for me. I am one happy little camper. I have yet to get much research done as his service records are yet available on-line, and of course in typical government style, I cannot order them either.
As many of you know, I love the 'oddities' when it comes to medals, and this sure fall within this category.
What really attracted me to this group was his name and the manner in which he met his demise.
It would appear that Pte. Willie Pickles was, well..... pickled. His official cause of death was listed as follows; "Cause of death has now been ascertained to be Acute Alcoholism, accelerated by the cold."
There is some research I have done, but have to assemble it all into a presentable form. This will be done in course, but for now here is the grouping, as I picked it up. Bare with me in regards to the photos. There are quite a few due to the way the items were very well packaged.
As always, your comments are always welcome.
