Thanks guys,i'm lucky to have found it and its always been one of my favorite helmet finds...Who would have ever figured one could find a helmet in an antique shop specializing in the boring stuff like china, glasswears etc?..freak accident maybe,I was waiting for the girlfriend to finish looking at something boring while i stood asleep on my feet waiting to do a swan-dive head first into a table of antique glass..i peired around the corner behind the till..it was partially covered and not on display for sale as the store owner thought it detracted from her store items (which it certainly did)...anyways,i havent seen anything like it yet but im curious why it was painted dark blue before the decal was applied..unfortunately i could not get any info on the helmets former owner from the lady i bought it from.

    Ed,

Maybe ... do you think the first div vets painted theirs red, third grey, fourth green, fifth maroon ? Would be interesting to see those examples as well.

I don't think the blue relates to the division. Many of the Cdn Corps vet materials were blue of some sort. Just another possibility.

Not sure but if a handful of these helmets were painted according to division colours then surely one would expect that there would be some pictures of other examples floating around somewhere..I mean even some of the rarer items in a collection will eventually turn up in a photo in another collection or in a book of some kind..so far i have seen nothing about it..I even found some time period photos of the event and put them under the enlarger to get the best possible detail and found nothing..they all seemed to be wearing berets if anything at all for headgear..I guess it will remain a mystery for the time being
