    CANADIAN SCOUTS CORONATION CONTINGENT 1902

    Two silver and 23 bronze Coronation Medals were awarded to the Canadian Scouts while in Britain.  Three bronze medals, for men absent when the presentation was made, were returned to the War Office and given to an officer for distribution in Canada.  The three medals were for 3559 Ferguson, 412 Bourke [sic] and 241 Shannon.  Ferguson, and Burke are on the Nominal Roll and Queen's South Africa Medal at Kew.  No trace can be found of Shannon.

    Served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, while serving with the 14th Battalion in France he shot himself in the leg, fracturing the femur.  In a Statement he said “I consider I was not fairly treated and I shot myself to get a rest.”  He died in hospital from self inflicted gunshot wound. June 14th, 1918.

    Canadian Expeditionary Force declared not eligible for British War Medal and Victory Medal.
