Picked up my first WWI badge today and I must say I really like the quality of the badges made back then. Probably won't be my last...the bug is starting to get to me!

Very nice Dale!,
Is your badge smooth backed? If so, you have an officers pattern.
Cheers,
Geoff

5th Western Cavalry Battalion
Hi Dale, First, get help, NOW! Badging is an infectious disease, which manifests itself by drooling over small pieces of metal or cloth. Fever, hyper-activity and twitching, especially near antique stores are common symptoms.
Some points about the 5th Bn badge. The cap badge came in at least two sizes, and several finishes, with several different makers. It appears that you photographed the badge on a reflective surface, and the back of the badge is partly shown. There is a makers name, that appears to be Gaunt? That may be what leads to Geoff's reference to an officer's badge? Depending on the size of this badge it may be a collar badge.

Good Morning Dale......
Wait till you start collecting those round, cross and star shaped bits of gold, silver and brass then you are in trouble.......
Remember -To have one of an item is nice, to have two is a collection, to have three is and obsession......
Boy am I ever obsessed.....

I do believe it is a collar badge since it does look kind of small.

Hi Dale, I think you have an officer's collar badge to the 5th. I was way off on my maker id. It is Goldsmith and Silversmith Company. They specialized in officers' badges for imperial and dominion troops.
