I got these in today also and am not sure what they are. The headstamp reads " D C Co 10". The shell is 2 3/4 inches long and the diameter of the rim is 3/4 "
    Anyone recognize this one?

    Hi,

It looks like a pair of 10 gauge shotgun casings. The headstand stands for Dominion Cartridge Company (a Canadian Company).

    Cheers,

    Hi Geoff,
That thought had crossed my mind as well, but I have some older shotgun shells that are paper shells. Anyone know when they were using full metal shotgun casings?

    Hi Jeff,

Brass casings seem to have been used from about 1880-1920 but certainly were not as main stream as paper cartridges. The cost was the main reason that they were not used as much, but I think they were considered more waterproof than paper-cartridges. They are very similar to the 1" brass flares used in WW1.

    Thanks again for the information.
I don't want these things so if anyone wants them and has something small they want to trade or a small cash offer, send me a message.
