Quite a productive day! I had to trade a US M1 helmet for the vest though...well worth it to me. I thought it would go well with my UN combats...and it does Very Happy

Are these vests still in circulation or are they old school now?

Can I assume the vest is 2001 dated or is that just part of the contract number?

I assume the vest is obsolete now, but someone else will tell you for sure. I have been offered a CadPat vest, that's why I believe these to be obsolete.
I turned downt he CadPat vest as far as I know it is a restricted item...not to mention the guys overseas need it more than I do.

Nice UN setup, looks great...now I have to resist putting one together myself . Thanks!LOL!

I am sure these vests are obsolete. Possibly some are still held in Reserve units, but I doubt that. I have recorded the NSN and will check when I get a chance. I have no idea where you got the manufactures date of 2001?? Not trying to be a smart ass Dale, just can't figure it out.

I will try to put together some sensible information on the current issued vests. I know the current vests are using the same liner and plates as my vest but with a AT or WT cover. My vest is the solid Olive colour, as the one shown, however the construction and fabrication is very different. The date of manufacture of my vest cover is April 2002. More to follow a little later.

The Vests are all second lined, Not used for front line "activities" , used as spare for the likes of grenade ranges. The reserve units are not entitled to hold them, but still held in supply depots. When I was in had the luck to wear 6 differnt types of vests, I have 4 of them in the collection.

I believe he is referring to the final two numbers of the contract number (01)

Yep! Ypres knows what I'm talking about...but I'm probably wrong as usual.

Is this vest correct for peacekeeping duties of the past?

    Dale,
This vest is quite correct for peacekeeping duties of the past. I have one that fits out my early '90's peacekeeping collection/display.
here are some employed in the Former Yugoslavia in 1992:

Yes, the vest is obsolete now. You have a first pattern vest like those issued in circa 1992. They were found to be too stiff and made shooting in the prone position very difficult and so a modified version was issued that had a horizontal slit on the back with three large green elastics. The modified vests came out in the mid 90's so your vest is definitely not made in 2001 but most likely around 92/93.

Excellent information and replies on this topic. I am not going to try to expand on of the information here as I think it is about covered. Other than the vest I am issued now, I have only one in my collection,. It looks like the old US style worn in Vietnam, it zippers in the front. Very poor in my opinion, compared to the one I have now.

Dale, I love this vest you have posted. Very nice score. I really have to get back into collecting.

    Hi Dale

Nice vest. The ones still around are hard used and in rough shape.

Wore one just like that in '94 (Canbat II).

However, carrying x2 rifle magazines in each front pocket made it difficult to close the flap so we modified them with a loop of narrow bungi cord through each button hole to secure to the button.

I'd be hard pressed to find a photo of that though. hmmm

Don't know to what exent that mod was used before or after us or in Canbat I.

    regards
    Darrell

Thanks for the comments and great info guys! I really like this vest too...had my eye on it for quite a while. I traded an original Korean war M1 helmet for it...I think I did very well.
