Re: Collar badges
The 106 collars are pre First World War, authorized 1912.

Re: Collar badges
Odd, I had another look at these and the beaver is facing opposite to the drawings in the Mazeas reference.

Re: Collar badges
Having yet another look at these, the badges you have may be a cap and a collar. Is the WLI badge on the left of your image a little bigger than the one on the right? Mazeas shows the cap badge with the beaver facing the small end of the horn, and the collars with the beaver facing the large end of the horn.

Re: Collar badges
Although both beavers are facing different directions they are also both facing the small end of the horn as the horns are facing opposite directions. Makes sense for collars but of course I don't have any references to compare to.

Re: Collar badges
Agreed Steve. The Mazeas book has the beaver on the collars facing the large end of the horn. The beaver on the cap badge faces the small end of the horn. Mazeas has errors, and this may be another.

Re: Collar badges
This WLI collar on ebay has the beaver facing the large end of the horn (just like in the Mazeas book):

Re: Collar badges
will have take some pictures of the backs, what is the Mazeas book please? I did see the one on ebay, I now see what you mean about the Beavor and direction, both the badges are the same, my photo makes them look different sizes as I took the shot through a magnifying glass (was trying that out for the first time) thanks for taking the time to give some feedback, would be great to see some more if anyone has a favourite, am also on the look out for Highlander collars, just have the one 134th at the moment,
Cheers

Re: Collar badges
Thanks for the additional information. They are collars, and they are properly oriented, with the mouth of the horn the beavers facing inwards. Solid back often indicates badges of better quality, made for officers. Any maker mark?

Re: Collar badges
Your 106 WLI are officer's collar badges by the looks of them. Nice snag.
