Im trying to find some info on a family member who served in ww1 his name is Alfred Roy but the story I was told was that he changed his name to Jos King since he was a French Canadian. He was Born in 1894 in Huntingdon Quebec. It seems all my family who served who are from Huntingdon are impossible to get any info on,anything would be great thanks for your help.

Re: Trying to find a family member
Use the website below and search the data base, try both names. You'll probably come up with quite a few hits for both names but without knowing his service number it will be the best you can do.
Best of luck.

Re: Trying to find a family member
Thanks I checked I got some hits but no one that was born in Huntingdon Quebec or it just has the soldiers name and service number no info on him . Both my family members who are born in Huntingdon who served in ww1 and ww2 I cant find any evidence that they actually served no records or anything, I sent a letter to the archives in Ottawa for my other family member from Huntingdon and they gave me some excuse that makes no sense

Re: Trying to find a family member
You have pretty daunting task. I too spent a few hours going over the WWI attestation papers. My suggestion would be to go through Ancestry and try searching that way. If you do not have ancestry, check your local library, most have a subscription.

I checked ancestry but I cant find any military info on him and I don't live in Huntingdon not sure if they have a library I know they have a legion but that's it. I know that a lot of Scottish regiments recruited in Huntingdon but I don't think he went since he was french

Lorne may be able to guide you somewhat, He collects to the Eastern Townships, Which I believe Huntington falls into. I am pretty much at a loss as to where to go now. I found nothing under either name for the data supplied.

Re: Trying to find a family member
Is it possible that you have some incorrect information? If your relative served in the CEF he should be easy to find. Perhaps he didnt serve or perhaps the info on his birth place is incorrect.
You may need to investigate on the geneology side more. I've had incorrect info before doing research, once facts were checked vs what the relative was told...we were able to determine the correct info and get the file they wanted.
Just a suggestion...it shouldn't be as hard as you are finding it.

Re: Trying to find a family member
I was told he changed his first name to be more English maybe he changed his date of birth to and he told his son he went to france but apparently he never talked about the war to him. Even my family members from huntingdon who didn't serve there is not really any info on either
