Here is an unusual canteen carrier, first of this style I have come across, has a strange button attachment on the bottom of the webbing.
Could this be some type of cavalry piece?

Hi Mike,
That piece looks familiar.
Now that you mention it being a calvery issued item that rings a bell to what the guy told me that sold it.
I could never find out much about it or how it was connected on the bottom. That piece of kit must be fairly rare as I have never seen another.

That's too funny, where's my forum member discount HA!
It fits very tight with the canteen, and the buckles are very narrow, they don't fit my shoulder strap.
