Please note that member edstorey has been banned. Although his knowledge is quite vast, his attitude toward other members has been less than cordial. This is an issue that has been discussed with this member many times, to no avail.

Re: Banned Member
Hi guys,
I have no say in this forum, but as a member I am uncomfortable with banning anyone. I have reviewed recent posts Ed has replied to and fail to see what Ed may have said to warrant the "Ban"? Perhaps it was deleted and I can't find it? Below, I have pasted a copy of sections of the forum guidelines that appear pertinent to this. I can't see, based on these, where the issue is ? Although at times, members comments can appear "Dry" or "Sharp", does this mean the comments are considered harassment or being so offensive or negative that a ban is necessary. The guidelines below seem to give a wide latitude to disagreements and various opinions that won't even be deleted never mind banning the members who are involved in the dispute ..... Just my feelings...

CMCF understands that inevitably ALL members will not agree on ALL topics & ideas ALL the time. There WILL be disagreements & tempers will flare. This is completely normal, it happens in marriages & relationships....so it will definitely happen in forums as well. all CMCF asks is that when disagreeing with someone or when correcting someones mistakes...please USE CAUTION and BE COURTEOUS. Also please show or provide links to backup your reasoning if it is available.
We all know how it feels to be told "SORRY PAL...YOU ARE WRONG" or "THAT IS FAKE", it is NOT fun to hear...SO please keep in mind how you feel when told that....when correcting or disagreeing with someone else.
IF CMCF ADMINISTRATORS OR STAFF DETERMINE THAT THE COMMENTS, POSTS AND/OR TOPICS ARE GETTING OUT OF HAND OR ARE BECOMING TOO NEGATIVE OR OFFENSIVE, THE POST WILL BE LOCKED TO PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE.
CMCF WILL NOT delete posts unless they violate any of the discrimination policies. We believe that the posts should stand as reference, whether good, bad or ugly and even if they get hostile. If a topic is LOCKED...then generally a reason will be posted in that topic explaining why.
If any member believes a post to be inappropriate, please contact a member of administration, and appropriate action will be taken if necessary.
CMCF WILL NOT tolerate PERSONAL INFORMATION such as address, phone numbers, etc. being displayed on the forum. ANY member caught doing this WILL BE permanently removed from the forum. The exceptions are if a member wishes to display or use his or her full name and/or your location.
CMCF WILL NOT tolerate ANY personal attacks or harassment by members on other members. We realize that some members have or will have issues with other members, be it from other forums, other's opinions, etc. CMCF STRONGLY RECOMMENDS that those members IGNORE each other. ANY posts or comments that violate this rule WILL be subject to being edited or removed.
CMCF reserves the right to lock, delete or edit ANY post that we deem as necessary with or without reason & with or without notification.
CMCF reserves the right to remove ANY member from the forum that we deem as necessary with or without reason & with or without notification.
CMCF does not review the personal messages sent between members. BUT we do expect the same strict standards to be upheld when utilizing the message system. If any member receives a message that they feel to be inappropriate, please forward it to a member of administration, and appropriate action will be taken.

Re: Banned Member
Ypres. First let me comment, you do have a say in the forum operations. Every member has a say in what goes on here.
We do take all suggestions and ideas and discuss them. Although we have not done so in a while.
In regards to the banning of one of our members, this was not a reactionary decision based on a single post. The decision was made, based on many posts and brash comments over an extended period of time. I have spoken to Ed many times about this, yet still it continues. I know Ed and consider him a friend, this decision was NOT made lightly.
Is the ban permanent? or just a time out.... well that is to be discussed between the moderators, and a decision will be made.

Thanks for the clarification. I also am pleased to see the "Ban" may be revisited in the future.

Ed should have been banned a long time ago, his abusive and rude behaviour should not be tolerated. He has been banned form other forums as well, he doesn't understand how to communicate with people in a respectful manner.

As small of a world as it is (and it took me a couple months to clue in)Ed Story and his wife were my grandparents neighbours for quite a long time..back in the 80s when i was a kid he came across as quite rude and arrogant as well yet his wife is about the nicest person youd ever meet..anyways,look at it as part of his charm, please keep in mind he cant help the way he talks to others...and this military stuff IS all he knows, its his only interest..to the point he has another building erected in his back yard to keep it all in,which ive wanted to check out for over 30yrs now and havent been allowed lol...so if you want a forum member that knows his stuff Ed is the guy..please remember the primary reason why we visit this site, knowledge on the subject...take Eds brow beating with a grain of salt and learn from the man 2 things..#1-all things military...#2-how not to treat people...i say leave it at that and let him back on in a month or so with a warning.

Re: Banned Member
I've known Ed online for at least 15 years and have met him in person several times. In person, he was always very friendly and helpful. He certainly has a different online persona in that he has no tolerance for what he feels are people taking advantage of others who have put the time and effort into research themselves. To be honest, sometimes I could understand his frustration but of course we always have the option to not participate in discussions if we feel someone doesn't deserve to benefit from our knowledge. Berating people online in hopes of changing behavior is undoubtedly an exercise in futility and not beneficial to anyone. I don't agree with his approach and wish he would change his ways as he is very knowledgeable and has an incredible and important collection that could be a very valuable resource to us all. It's unfortunate that he has been banned but he brought it upon himself and likely isn't surprised as he was very aware of how he was perceived by others online.

Don't know the guy personally but he came across as arrogant and rude in some of his posts.
Hopefully the time out will give him time to reflect and he can return to share some of his knowledge in the future.

Hi Guys,
Seems like the Forum has had less traffic since Ed was banned? It seems like his presence created some discussion that isn't there anymore? Regardless of your opinion, his presence and expertise did create discussions that seem to be missing lately. Maybe a good thing?
All the best,
Ypres

Re: Banned Member
As I had said before, at least I think I said it on the open forum. I have known Ed for years, and I consider him a friend. He is the only person I know with a poorer filter than myself.
I had planned to release his profile at the start of the new year, with the understanding that he could work on his filter. Honestly, I am not sure he can, and neither is he. However, I have un-banned him as of this morning. The moderators WILL be keeping a close eye on his behavior.
