WWII Tankers Helmets Empty WWII Tankers Helmets

Here are the tankers helmets I picked up at auction last weekend. Some more detailed shots.
Anyone know the significance of the number 48 stencilled on the green one? Also, why green? The only ones I have seen are the black lacquered ones.

Those are great looking helms! Couldn't tell you anything about them though...yet to find one of these myself.

I can't see the number 48 in the photos. I assume that it is marked on the outside?

My bad, I realized I forgot to take the closeups of the outside shots and the over all shot didn't upload properly to expand.
The number 48 is stencilled in white on the front and back of the green helmet. Perhaps a tank #???

Aw man! I just drove through there last Saturday....twice! I noticed quite a few antique stores heading north through town. Will have to go for a ride down there soon. Just didn't have the time that day though.

I did see the Lancaster peeking through the hangar doors on my way to Lethbridge...that made my day seeing that big ol' beast again. There was a universal carrier parked along the road by the museum too.

Control number? The 48 could be a stores number, when the helmets were temporarily issued for training?
