    Hey guys,
Just got off the phone and it looks like I am going to be doing a set up in an art gallery in Goderich ON!
The Reuben R. Sallows Gallery is going to be doing a display of his WWI photographs of Canadian Interment Camps. They are also featuring a WWI Officer from Goderich and Soldier portraits done by Sallows.
To flesh out the display they have asked that I supply some WWI artifacts including uniforms, hats, helmets, medals and equipment. It is a three month display and I am told it is a world class gallery! Totally excited to share part of my collection..it's been awhile since I have done a public display. I really enjoy sharing my collection and passion for Canadian military history.
Had to share the news and of course I will share pics of the setup when it is done...slated to be setup at the end of Sept.

Got confirmation on the art gallery display and also got a call about doing a temporary exhibit at a local museum for October through Remembrance Day. They are trying to arrange trips to look at the exhibit for the local schools with possible presentations by myself and a vet.
Sharing my passion for Canadian military history is exciting for me, I get to put my collection to work and share it with the general public.

Awesome Jeff! I wish the schools and museums had more interest here. Can't wait to see the pics!

Well, to be honest I had to start the ball rolling. I contacted the museum and the Art Gallery is an acquaintance who knew I collected.
The school presentation I did last year was also an acquaintance who I told I had done displays. Its a great way to share our passion and hopefully spark some interest in it for someone else.

Here are some pics of the display at the gallery. The display is not complete yet and my items are not on display yet either. They scaled back the display of my stuff and I only loaned about 8 items, none of them uniforms.
They felt they had enough uniforms with the ones that you see.

Well, I got a phone call today...they only used four of my items. I am a little disappointed, but at least I was able to help out a little.

On the other hand I got another call from the museum and I get the entire special collections room for my collection for one week through Remembrance Day. The Legion and the vets will recieve an invitation to visit and the local schools are being contacted to come for school tours. This one is going to be alot of work but hopefully well worth it.

This is the kind of great public exhibition that kids need to see...it adds that tangible aspect that can educate and inspire.

I have been asked to speak at my small hometown Remembrance Day ceremony and I can not wait to exhibit even a bit of my collection.

Kudos Jeff...please post pics of your museum display when you have it complete

    Cheers!

    Hey guys,
I set up the museum display on Friday and forgot my camera. I am going to be there all day on Remembrance Day and will take some pics then.
In the meantime this is a small display I did this past Sunday at a local church for their Remembrance Service. This is my third year doing this display and the church members really enjoy it.

The museum display pics are finally done. I spent all day there today and had a great time. The turn out was great. I even had two Gr. 10 history classes come in and I did a presentation for them.
Before the critiques start hacking apart my display, I realize some items don't belong together and I realize the Lorne Scots kilt is not displayed in a very manly way, but this is a small museum and we had to do with what we had.
The local legion president was in and asked if I would want to do a setup next year as they will be celebrating their 80th anniversary.
I welcome all constructive criticism so I can improve upon my displays for the future.

Very nice display Jeff. Could you please provide some additional information.

In the photograph below is a MK II Medics helmet. Does it go with the BD? If yes, what do you know about the soldier who wore it? What's the date and markings in the helmet? Could you possibly post a photograph of just the helmet?

    Thank you.

This picture shows a WW I panoramic unit photograph. What unit is this?

The medics helmet and tunic are not a set. The helmet was found in an antiques store with post war paint on it. When I got it home I noticed some red paint underneath and began to remove the paint to see what it was. I revealed the red cross and stopped the paint removal process so as not to damage it any more.
The BD is not named and was picked up at auction.
The WWI panoramic photo is of the 106th Nova Scotia Rifles A Coy.
